Verizon Up members have been sent an email promising exclusive skins for the new Marvel’s Avengers game and beta. The beta for Avengers is currently available for PS4 pre-order holders, but only Verizon Up users are getting this email about these particular skins. Verizon Up is a rewards program that gives Verizon customers gift cards for using their services and paying their bills on time.

Several users on Twitter have shared messages where they were informed of exclusive skins or in-game rewards that are connected to services outside of Marvel’s Avengers. Verizon seems to be one of the bigger partners, but there have also been images of a tie-in with 5Gum that includes an exclusive Ms. Marvel nameplate.

Marvel’s Avengers appears to be focused on tie-ins and exclusive partnership rewards from a number of sources. The game is even working with Fortnite for an Avengers event and giving out free Fortnite Hulk pickaxes.

Even though it is still in beta, Marvel’s Avengers is already facing strong criticism from Marvel fans and gamers for the decision to offer exclusive characters to one platform. This latest news is not as significant as keeping Spider-Man to PS4, but it likely won’t help the game’s case in the eyes of fans either. Reception to the beta thus far has been mixed and gameplay trailers have not always landed as developer Crystal Dynamics had hoped. At this point, the more that players discover about the game, the more they seem less interested in it.

Marvel’s Avengers releases September 4, 2020 for PC, PlayStation4, and Xbox One.
