Marvel’s Midnight Suns is another unique Marvel game showing potential in the video game industry since it’s a tactical role-playing game with turn-based features like XCOM. In Marvel’s Midnight Suns, players can assemble a team of supernatural fighting heroes and equip them with powerful Combat Items. But, with so many Combat Items (and a limited number of slots) in Marvel’s Midnight Sun, players will want to know which ones are worth using.

5 Phoenix Flame - Legendary

Unfortunately, RNG is heavily present in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, meaning even a well-thought-out plan can result in a hero’s death or even worse a battle loss. And while some heroes can revive themselves (like the jack-of-all-trades Wolverine), others can’t and must be revived through Combat Items, like the Phoenix Flame.

But, using the Phoenix Flame comes at a price since it will drain half of the HP of the user (and give it to the revived ally). So, players should use the Phoenix Flame on tanky heroes (since they have naturally high HP) or on heroes that have healing Ability Cards (like the Hunter or Scarlet Witch). And if a player is struggling to keep their team alive, lowering the overall difficulty may be the best course of action.

4 Fury Totem - Rare

Select a hero. Draw a card every time they KO an enemy for 2 turns.

Cards are the bread and butter of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, from Ability Cards to Combat Items. So, being able to draw more Cards during a mission can make a huge difference since it enables players to gain access to their more powerful Cards (like Captain America’s Dig In+ Ability Card). That’s why Fury Totem is among the best Combat Items in Marvel’s Midnight Sun, as it allows players to draw a card for every enemy KO’d for two turns.

But, of course, to be able to use Fury Totem’s ability, players must KO an enemy unit. Fortunately, Marvel’s Midnight Suns has plenty of hard-hitting heroes, like Blade, Wolverine, and Spider-Man. For example, a decent deck for Spider-Man consists of Special Delivery+, Opportunist+, and Quick Kick+. So while this Combat Item is quite useful, it depends on a team with plenty of hard-hitters (and well-made Decks), which is why it’s not ranked higher.

3 Ironoak Charm - Rare

Select a hero. They gain Block for each enemy targeting them.

One of the common rookie mistakes players make while playing Marvel’s Midnight Suns is using only Attackers and Offense Cards. And while this tactic may work in the early stages of the game, it won’t cut it when players reach the mid-game since enemy units can potentially OHKO (One-hit Knockout) the entire team. So, to counter these high-powered enemies, players must use Tanks and Defense Combat Items.

One powerful Defensive Combat Item is Ironoak Charm since the user gains Block for each enemy unit targeting them. So, top-tier Tanks like Captain Marvel and The Hulk will be able to gain more Block on top of the ones they gain with their own Ability Cards. But, to use this Combat Item effectively, players should use a Taunt Ability Card or Combat Item before activating Ironoak Charm.

2 Gamma Reversion Pulse - Legendary

Select an enemy or ally. Remove all of their status effects.

In Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Status Effects (beneficial or detrimental) play a vital role in a mission, as they can turn the tide for the entire team. Support heroes like Doctor Strange can help the team with Enhanced or even Knockback enemies to set up another attack. But, the enemy team also has access to powerful Combat Items and Ability Cards that can cause Status Effects.

A reliable way of clearing negative (or positive from enemies) Status Effects is using the Gamma Reversion Pulse since it removes all Status Effects from the target. For example, Bind is a powerful Status Effect that makes the target immobile, making them easy targets. But, by using Gamma Reversion Pulse, players can remove Bind and counter accordingly. This Combat Item is a must-have in any Deck since it can save a hero in a pinch.

1 Vial of Shadows - Epic

Select a hero. They gain Concealed.

One of the best things about Marvel’s Midnight Suns is the sheer number of unique Ability Cards, each with an amazing visual effect. But, while these Ability Cards are stunning, many can wreak havoc on the team, especially the “glass cannons.” Fortunately, players can use Vial of Shadows to Conceal a hero from being targeted by an enemy.

Heroes can remain concealed indefinitely as long as they don’t use a targeted ability or an AOE/Knockback affects them. Players can use this Epic Combat Item whenever a hero’s HP drops or to hide a hero from a powerful Status Effect-type attack. Another good time to use Vial of Shadows is if an ally (a weak one) has been inflicted with Taunt since it’ll make them invisible to enemy attacks. Undoubtedly, Vial of Shadows is one of the best Combat Items in Marvel’s Midnight Suns since it can save an ally from dying with no negative effects.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is available now for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
