Marvel’s Midnight Suns offers fans a satisfying tactical combat system, a compelling and unique narrative, and a social RPG based on beloved and even lesser-known Marvel heroes. Midnight Suns reviews prove it was worth the wait, though by no means is the game perfect, but one potentially game-breaking bug is particularly concerning.
As a strategy game at its core, Marvel’s Midnight Suns gives players plenty of micromanagement and subsystems using resources like credits, essences, artifacts, coils, and more to play around, whether that’s completing research, training in the yard, upgrading cards, and so on. The W.A.R. Room gives players the chance to send their heroes out on Hero Ops to collect resources and rare cards; it’s a useful system to coexist alongside the game’s core three-party system but a Hero Ops bug is breaking the game and losing players tons of hours.

Some players are opening their W.A.R. Room menu to a message saying, “out of video memory trying to allocate a texture! Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory…,” as seen below. Obviously, this is not something Marvel’s Midnight Suns players can exactly do on a console. The cause seems to be the game accidentally sending out one hero on two Hero Ops once unlocked. It is not currently clear how many players are being impacted by this bug, but it’s worth keeping in mind as players proceed through the game.
Unfortunately, this can break the game and cause players to lose tons of hours if the hero is locked one of those required for the main story. If the hero is required but on a Hero Op, players have no means to proceed with the story of Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Some players are reporting that saving in front of the terminal, opening it, and smashing X several times, as fast as someone can, and repeating it eventually works, but this requires players to do it several times. And there are no guarantees.
Luckily, Firaxis is already aware of this bug. In response to reports of it on Reddit, Midnight Suns Lead Engineer Will Miller confirmed that they are aware of the issue (because of the subreddit) and are working on a fix. This has yet to be fixed, but hopefully, it will happen sooner rather than later.
After all, even if this bug doesn’t break the game for players, it still effectively locks off Hero Ops, the ability to sell items to SHIELD, and more, and the workaround is as frustrating as the bug. It should be noted, however, that this doesn’t prevent players who have a hero locked behind the bug from preventing the final mission of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, where all heroes are required, luckily.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions in development.
