The Leader card has always been seen as especially strong, but it has become controversial following the introduction of Marvel Snap’s Token system due to it becoming much more widespread. Leader is a 6-cost card with 4 power. On reveal, it copies all cards played by an opponent for the turn, but on the player’s side. It works as a hard counter to a significant number of decks, particularly beginner-focused decks that are relatively straightforward.

A recent leak stemming from non-US versions of Marvel Snap revealed that Second Dinner would be making a nerf to Leader in an upcoming patch. This nerf, however, was not substantial. It made no changes to Leader’s ability, instead lowering his power by a single point. Marvel Snap players criticized the potential Leader change as insufficiently addressing criticism. Further, they hoped the leak wasn’t true and that broader changes were planned.
Second Dinner’s Ben Brode has since responded to feedback regarding Leader on Twitter. He first confirmed that the leak regarding Leader’s power reduction is accurate. However, an accompanying patch note was missing. This patch note clarified that Second Dinner is currently evaluating a bigger change to Leader. The small change to Leader’s power is a quick fix, of sorts, while Second Dinner evaluates further changes.
Brode hammers home that this isn’t a situation where Second Dinner may or may not make further changes to Leader. There will be another change, or potentially more than one change, but the decision regarding what to do has not been made yet. Marvel Snap players need to be patient while Second Dinner comes to what it feels to be the correct course of action regarding Leader.
Like with many cards in Marvel Snap, Leader players an important role in the card pool. Leader serves to counter decks that focus heavily on winning games solely on Marvel Snap’s sixth turn. With Leader available, these decks have to be played more intelligently out of fear of being countered. Nerfing Leader to the point of being unusable would just create new problems. That’s why Second Dinner is trying to figure out a better solution. Time will tell what that solution ends up being.
Marvel Snap is available now on PC and mobile devices.
