Since there’s no way to directly buy cards in Marvel Snap, the math simply assumes a very straightforward equation and ignores the time necessary to actually progress a player’s Collection Level. It splits off rewards from the Season Pass, which grants some cards and variants on its own, and considers standard progression only. Players will have to evaluate the amount of time necessary to earn Boosters on their own, but in terms of straight Gold to Credits to Collection Level, here’s what players should keep in mind.

According to a post from Grondu on Reddit, drawing a line from dollars to Gold, from Gold to Credits, and from Credits to Collection Level, the real money cost of a card is anywhere from $.50 to $27 depending on Collection Level. That low $.50 price is gone almost immediately, as by the time players hit level 15, it’s closer to $2.00. Pool 2 cards, which start at 215, start to cost $4.50 per card. Pool 3 cards start at $9 at level 500. By 755 they cost $13.50, and at level 995 and beyond they cost $27.

Marvel Snap players understand that the higher a player’s Collection Level, the longer it takes to unlock the next card. Past around level 1,000 is when players enter the “end game” of Marvel Snap and can earn Collector’s Reserve caches. One is rewarded every 12 levels and has just a 25% chance of rewarding a card. If it costs around $5 to gain 9 levels, that comes out to $27 per card.

Obviously, very few Marvel Snap players are going to be paying as much as possible from the day they start the game. But there may be some Marvel Snap players feeling stuck that want to know just how much they’d have to spend to progress, and how much it’d cost for one more chance at the card they want. It’s unfortunately not going to be cheap.

All things considered, Marvel Snap is a very free-to-play-friendly card game. Spending money will make progression faster, but not too much faster. Even big spenders still need to play the game. There’s also the Season Pass, which is pretty affordable at $9.99 per season and is packed with useful rewards. As a result, it’s perhaps unsurprising that the rest of Marvel Snap’s monetization is fairly expensive. Free-to-play games do tend to add new monetization over time, but hopefully it doesn’t come at the expense of Marvel Snap’s gameplay.

Marvel Snap is available now on PC and mobile devices.
