According to a recent blog post from Capcom, the issue was discovered following the release of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s December 5 content update, but it is apparently not too widespread, as the publisher and developer has explained that it only affects a small portion of the total player base. As detailed by Capcom’s Andy Wong, there is a specific set of circumstances that could lead to Xbox One fans encountering the bug, but thankfully there is a way to avoid it.

In order to elude the save bug in the physical version of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite on Xbox One, it’s imperative to not create new save data until after closing out the game and updating it, or else it will overwrite players’ previous saves. As Wong explained, “This will then ensure your save data stays intact and will work properly. Again, you will only lose your save data if you choose to accept the option to create a new save in this scenario, which would overwrite your prior data.”

Should there be fans out there who have save data from the latest update and need to reinstall Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite by way of the Xbox One disc, Capcom has stressed that players ought to “make sure [they] connect to Xbox Live and apply the latest update after reinstalling from the disc, but before [playing] the game.” Unfortunately, the game’s developers have yet to find a fix, nor has Capcom announced that a patch is on the way.

Taking all of this into consideration, one can only hope that this problem is rectified sooner rather than later for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s Xbox One users. Not only would it ease players’ minds knowing the bug has been squashed, but also it would reflect well on Capcom for fixing the issue so diligently. After all, no one wants to lose any coveted achievements and trophies they’ve earned along the way due to an unforeseen technical error.
