The Marvel Studios special is believed to be based off of the Marvel character Werewolf by Night. A short synopsis of the show was released by Production Weekly. It reads, “A new werewolf by Night is prowling the Southwest, but all is not as it seems! A young man, a family curse and an unholy experiment prove a dangerous combination for a small town in Arizona. All young Jake wants is to protect his people, but who will protect him from the monster within?”

Deadline broke news of the special adding Donnelly to the cast alongside co-star Gael Garcia Bernal, who is set to play the main character for the upcoming spooky special. More recently, Marvel has been calling and pushing for more representation on screen as its fans are demanding and equally hungry for it. Marvel sent out a bat signal that they wanted a Latino actor specifically to have the lead role in this special, and in came Garcia Bernal. Although Donnelly’s role has not yet been revealed, there is some intel in regards to Bernal’s character that could help lead fans to some clues.
Bernal’s character has the ability of being able to transform into a werewolf while simultaneously keeping his human intelligence intact, which makes him practically unstoppable. Knowing this, Deadline speculates that it would only make sense for Donnelly to be stepping into the role of Nina Price, a.k.a. Vampire by Night. The character of Nina Price is complicated to say the least and has many hidden layers of depth to her. For one, her character requires a constant sense of duality, not dissimilar to Bernal’s character.
Price has both vampire and werewolf blood in her, meaning she is a hybrid (half vampire, half werewolf), and to complicate things further, she is the niece of character Jack Russell (Werewolf by Night). Price apparently carries the lycan gene and was transformed further after being bitten by a vampire.
The Marvel Studios Halloween special is set to start production in the coming month. The special follows other Marvel Studios Disney Plus shows The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, and Hawkeye.
