How to Start Citadel DLC in Mass Effect 3

To gain access to and start the Citadel DLC in Mass Effect 3, players must first complete the mission “Priority: Citadel II”. An email from Admiral Hackett entitled “Priority: Citadel Shore Leave” will now be available to read from Shepard’s private terminal.

Hackett is ordering the Normandy in for repairs, and invites Shepard to stay at Anderson’s apartment while the ship is grounded. Use the Galaxy Map to travel to the Citadel, but instead of choosing the Alliance Docks, pick Personal Apartment. Explore the apartment and then read the email from Joker at the private terminal. This will start Citadel immediately, and players will be locked in to the mission until it’s finished.

When to Start Citadel DLC in Mass Effect 3

Although the Citadel DLC can be started right after “Citadel II” is completed, it is highly recommended to wait until every character has been recruited, and that Shepard has locked in a romance option in Mass Effect 3.

Meeting every new and old squadmate and crew member that survived the suicide mission in Mass Effect 2, and the events of the third game, means they will be included in the fun mission. So, the best place to start the Citadel DLC is actually right before the end of the game.

The point of no return is when “Priority: Cerberus Headquarters” is selected. Once this mission is started, players can no longer take part in any missions left uncompleted in the journal, including Citadel. A save file can always be made before starting the last mission and reloaded if players wish to complete the game before experiencing one of the best DLC’s in Mass Effect.

The Citadel DLC is a great sendoff for the old and new Normandy Crew, however, and completing it before finishing Mass Effect 3 is generally regarded as the best way to experience the conclusion of the trilogy.
