While Crystal Dynamics has addressed a lot of the game’s initial issues and added interesting story DLC, Marvel’s Avengers hasn’t gotten better with the way it presents itself. Earlier this week the game added a pay-to-win system that allows players to purchase XP boosts so they can speed up the process of leveling up. This has vindicated a lot of fans who were apprehensive about the game when it initially launched due to its seeming inability to choose a direction, as well as its intrusive cosmetic microtransactions....

The studio announced the newest skin inside Marvel’s Avengers’ marketplace on the game’s official Twitter, giving players a proper look at the latest retro suit. His new suit looks as if it was lifted right from The Avengers comics of the late-60s and 70s, which featured the purple-clad archer regularly during this time as the team battled the likes of Arcade, Crossfire, and Baron Zemo. To hammer this home, Crystal Dynamics included an image of one such Avengers comic from the aforementioned time period with Hawkeye front-and-center....

With a rating now secure, it would appear that Marvel’s Avengers is now content complete, even if it still has a months of bug squashing and polishing ahead before it’s considered gold. However, the Entertainment Software Rating Board has passed judgement on the title, giving it an official rating of T for Teen for the North American region. As expected, the rating warns of foul language, mild blood, and violence....

As such, the live service model that Marvel’s Avengers launched with has proved to be a detriment rather than a strength, as there are fewer players to serve. Players are leaving the game in droves, with lower concurrent and peak counts each month. Nowhere is this clearer than on PC, where Steam tells a clear story with some surprising twists.
